Ray Moore will be held at First Presbyterian Church (17th and H Streets) on Thursday morning, January 24, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Ray was born in Maricopa, CA on December 21, 1929. He played football, basketball, and performed in musicals during his four years at Maricopa High School from which he graduated in 1947. He attended the University of Santa Barbara. His love of music continued throughout his life. He participated in the Bakersfield Masterworks Chorale and sang in the choirs of First Presbyterian and Olive Drive churches for many years. He served in the Air forced during the Korean War and began working for Standard Oil Company upon his discharge. He married his wife Diane in September of 1955. In 1971, he went to work for the newly built CSUB in the accounting office, and then became the business manager in the new athletic department in 1972. He helped to establish the department and loved working there until his retirement in 1993. In honor of his working dedication in athletics, the CCAA awarded him a lifetime membership. He was the first to successfully bid the regional basketball playoffs, bringing national attention to the Bakersfield community. He also helped to develop the successful athletic BBQ's. Students often stopped by his office to talk and get his fatherly advice and the coaches relied on Ray to solve their problems as well. As an elder at First Presbyterian Church, he frequently officiated worship services and preached during summer months at the Community Presbyterian Church in Glennville. During his retirement, Ray enjoyed traveling and sharing time with his family. His love for God has been a great influence on his daughters and grandchildren. Ray is survived by his wife, Diane; his daughters, Vicki and Kathleen; his son-in-law, Henry; and his two grandchildren, Aaron and Elyse. Well done! - good and faithful servant.
