MORLOCK, Wilhelm Rudolph Louis (1841-1912) Proprietor Sud-California Post - 107 1/2 North Main Street, Los Angeles, California - HIS "THIRTY" IS SOUNDED - German Journalist Passes Away In This City After Eventful Career. - Established Paper Here. - William R. L. Morlock, editor and owner of the Southern California Post, a German weekly, died yesterday morning at his residence, No. 730 East Twelfth street. He was 71 years of age. The funeral will be held this afternoon at the residence. He is survived by a widow and four children, Mrs. Clara Schreiber, Max, Eugene and Minnie Morlock. - Morlock was a popular journalist and his paper enjoys an extensive circulation among the Germans of Los Angeles and near-by cities. - He was born in 1841 in Esslingen, Wurtemburg, Germany. He worked as a jeweler after graduating from high school and lyceum in his native city. In 1872 he was elected to a position corresponding to the councilmen of fifth class cities in California, and five years later was elevated to the position of Mayor in Esslingen. - In 1884 he came to America, going to Pittsburgh, where he was editor of the Sontaggsblatt. He went to Seattle in 1887, and then to Los Angeles, where he established the Post, which was at first a daily.
