The Downey Eagle January 5, 2001 Volume 8 Number 46 Carl William Mundt remembered at age 82 DOWNEY-Services were held Thursday, Jan. 4 at the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary Chapel for Carl William Mundt, a 30 year resident of Downey and for 60 years the self-employed owner of Mundt & Son, a paint contracting company. He was 82, born Sept. 27, 1918 in Ottunwa, Iowa, the son of Frederick Mundt and Mary Mabel Jennings Mundt. He loved to garden and care for more than 1,200 rose bushes around his home. He loved horse racing and sports of all kind. He knew many details of sports trivia. In his younger days he managed a softball team. He was also an excellent cook. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy as a cook. Survivors include his wife, Maxine Mundt of Downey; his son, Jimmy Gene Mundt (Rosalie Karen) of La Palma; a daughter, Karen Eileen Smith of Downey; brothers Donald Mundt of San Diego, Bob Mundt of Colorado; sisters Marlene Morris of Texas, Ellen Spencer of Michigan; and grandsons Jeffrey Allen Mundt and Douglas Alan Bidinger. Pastor Douglas Aldridge officiated. Burial was private. Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Mortuary.
