"Jim" Munschy, who came to Mojave a half-century ago and was an active member of the community throughout his time here, passed away Tuesday morning in a Lancaster Hospital. A familiar figure in the community during the past 50 years, Jim made positive contributions to the business and social life of Mojave while brightening the world with an irrepressible sense of humor. In business, Jim owned and operated Desert Distributing Company, which distributed beer in Mojave and Barstow. He was a former honorary mayor, served on the cemetery district board and was active in improving the cemetery, was an active member of the Mojave Elks Lodge, serving as Exalted Ruler, a member of Al Mailakah Temple of the Shrine and, as a veteran of three years service in the U.S. Army, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. According to many of his friends, Jim also lent active support to community activities behind the scenes, contributing money anonymously to worthy local causes. Jim was the kind of person who could always be counted on to lend a helping hand to people who needed one. He is survived by his wife Bonnie, son Larry of Lancaster, daughter Cherie Huncherson of Lancaster, mother Alberta Hill of Fresno, brother Louis Munschy of Fresno, step-son Jack Sheldon of Lancaster and step-daughter Linda Sheldon of Sacramento, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Jim was born April 23, 1921 in. Bakersfield. Services will be held at the Stickel Mortuary Chapel at 10 a.m. Friday. Laurence J. Munschy, a 50-year resident of Mojave, CA passed away on April 11, 2000 at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, CA. He was born on April 23, 1921, in Bakersfield, CA. Mr. Munschy was the owner of Desert Dist. Co. He served three years in the Army and was a member of the VFW, Moose Lodge, the Elks and the Shrine. He is survived by his wife of 30-years, Bonnie Munschy of Mojave, CA; son Larry Munschy of Lancaster, CA; daughter Cheri Huncherson of Lancaster, CA; mother Alberta Hill of Fresno, CA; brother, Louis Munschy of Fresno, CA; step-son Jack Sheldon of Lancaster, CA; and step- daughter, Linda Sheldon of Sacramento, CA; seven grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. Memorial services were held on April 14, 2000 at Stickel Mortuary Chapel in Mojave, CA.
