CAR ACCIDENT KILLS SOLDIER 
Staff Sergeant Paul M. Murphy, 24, is the latest fatality attributed to army accidents in 
Kern county, bringing the total of army dead in the county to six in the month of 
August, according to a report today by Coroner Norman C. Houze who investigated 
the accident. Murphy was the driver of an army truck and was taking a short cut 
across the dry lake bed on the way to Rosamond at 10:30 last Thursday night when the 
truck went out of control and swerved to the left killing Murphy and injuring four 
other soldiers, riding in the truck.	.	
Sergeant Murphy a native of Rhode Island was stationed at a Kern field and his body 
was taken to March Field pending funeral arrangements.
