Murphy, 24, is the latest fatality attributed to army accidents in Kern county, bringing the total of army dead in the county to six in the month of August, according to a report today by Coroner Norman C. Houze who investigated the accident. Murphy was the driver of an army truck and was taking a short cut across the dry lake bed on the way to Rosamond at 10:30 last Thursday night when the truck went out of control and swerved to the left killing Murphy and injuring four other soldiers, riding in the truck. . Sergeant Murphy a native of Rhode Island was stationed at a Kern field and his body was taken to March Field pending funeral arrangements.
