"Big Bear Grizzly"; Wednesday, February 20, 2008 SAMUEL �SAM� CHARLES PECKHAM 54, a longtime local resident, passed of an apparent heart attack on Friday, Feb. 15, 2008. Known in the local construction industry as one of the Valley�s best cement finishers, Sam was considered an artist in his profession. He also was a fine potter, working in clay and ceramics. Born in Oakland, Calif., Oct. 6, 1953, Sam lived near the ocean as a young man, where he learned to surf, his lifelong favorite sport. He lived in Seaside, Ore., and worked as a lumberjack before moving to Big Bear Lake in 1984 with his wife of 24 years, Teresa Pickard. Sam is survived by three children, Erin, a graduate student at UCLA; Anna, a freshman at Big Bear High School; and Micah, an 8th grader at Big Bear Middle School. He is also survived by his parents, Elwyn Peckham of San Francisco and Diane Peckham of Concord, Calif. He also l eaves three brothers, David and Benjamin of Concord and Daniel of Richmond, Calif. Funeral arrangements are pending.
