Source Unknown; 30 Oct 1941 Mojave Pioneer Passes On With death ending a most useful life, another of Mojave's early-day settlers and pioneers has passed on to her reward. Mrs. Mary Perry, mother of our postmaster, John Nestor died last Thursday morning after a lingering illness. Born in Edenmore County Down, Ireland in 1857, Mrs. Perry came to Mojave in 1876, the year the S. P. built over the Tehachapi pass and in 1877 married Michael E. Nestor, she leaves one son, John and a niece, Miss Ruth Spaulding, besides Michael Coffill a son-in-law to mourn her passing, her daughter Mae, having preceded her in death last summer. Mrs. Perry with her husband ran the old Indian Wells stage station in those days and many were the tales she could tell about bandits and bad Indians who infested that region. The family moved, to Mojave In 1883 and opened, the Arlington hotel which was later destroyed by fire. But nothing daunted they rebuilt the hotel meanwhile living in a tent while it was being rebuilt. Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Doughty-Calhoun-O'Meara Co. and interrment took place In Union cemetery after High Requiem Mass at St. Francis Catholic Church in Bakersfield. A host of friends attended the last rites among whom were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cappello, Mrs. Angelo Cappello, Mrs. Steve Ceccarelli, Mrs. Pajanew of Cinco, Charles Randall, Mrs. Roy Gray and the immediate family relatives.
