Source Unknown; Thursday 06 Jan 1944 OLD RESIDENT PASSES AWAY Having led an existence for the past nine years which virtually amounted to that of a hermit, R. N. Poling, apparently 70 years old, who lived in a cabin southeast of Mojave for the past nine years passed away at the county Hospital in Bakersfield this week, having been taken, there when he suddenly took sick by Deputy Sheriff Glen Roberts. Mr. Poling, who was. a retired printer was a member in excellent standing in the International Typographical Union and at the time of his death had a paid up card to April 1, 1944 in Springfield Local No. 117. Although living alone he was a well-known character in Mojave Funeral arrangements are awaiting word from a sister who is reported to be residing in Los Angeles.
