The Downey Eagle August 31, 2001 Volume 9 Number 28 John Price of Theater Guild, Opera mourned LAKEWOOD-John Price, publicity director for the Theater Guild and Lakewood Civic Light Opera suffered a massive heart attack and died Aug. 12. A life-long lover of theater, and particularly children's theater, his dream was for the Civic Light Opera to have its own building. The Opera currently uses the theaters at John Marshall Middle School and Bancroft Middle School. Price's idea was to acquire an existing empty building and turn it into a theater where the Opera could house its orchestra, dance, scenery and costume departments under one roof, and hold classes in dance, music, voice and acting in addition to the shows. The Theater Guild and Lakewood Civic Light Opera does eight productions per season. Approximately 200 children come through the program each season. This fall will be the Opera's eighth year of community service. The Theater Guild and Lakewood Civic Light Opera has set up the John Price Foundation to collect donations of money, equipment, costumes, scenery, lights, curtains and seating to outfit the theater once a building has been found. It will be named The John Price Theater. Donations may be made to The Theater Guild for the John Price Foundation, P.O. Box 312, Lakewood, CA 90714. For information, call (714) 816-1706. Price is survived by two daughters; three grandchildren; and his theater family.
