Mojave Desert News; 3 Nov 1949 Miners Death Caused By Falling Slab A fatal accident occurred last week, Oct. 27 at about 10 a.m. in the West Baker Mine which resulted in the death of John Prymake. The story as I heard it was to the effect that the deceased was trying to loosen a large slab of earth and borax that released itself unexpectedly and partially fell on him. He managed to crawl out from beneath it unassisted. When he arose some miners asked him if he wanted attention of any kind and he answered in the negative. A few minutes later he took some 20 steps forward and collapsed. Dr Horsely was immediately summoned but when he examinee the man he pronounced him dead. John Prymake was born in Ukrania in 1894, emigrated to the U. S. in 1913. He started employment with PCB in 1929 and had a record of 20 years with them. His only relative was second cousin, Bill Gordon of Los Angeles who arranged for the last rites. The funeral was held a 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the O'Donnell Funeral Home and he was buried in the Mojave cemetery and many people paid their last respects. Quite a few people were there from Boron. The autopsy revealed internal hemorrhage and liver disorder.
