Redfern, a long-time resident of Downey, died May 16 of complications of Parkinson's disease. He was 81, born Jan. 11, 1920, in Decatur, Illinois. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II, serving from 1942 to 1946. Survivors include his son, Gary; two grandchildren, Lauren and Richard Redfern; and a sister, Marilyn McPeek of Moreno Valley. The Downey Eagle July 27, 2001 Volume 9 Number 23 Memorial service held for Jack Redfern DOWNEY-A memorial service was held July 17 at the Riverside National Cemetery for Jack Redfern, a resident of Downey for 31 years, who died May 16 after a long illness. He was born Jan. 11, 1920 in Canton, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II from May 1943 to Dec. 1945. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Roberta; two step-sons, Glenn and David Pinkerton; a step- daughter, Janice Bigelow (George); an adopted son, Gary; granddaughters Liberty Studler, Lisa Bigelow, Lauren Redfern; and a grandson, Richard; four great-grandchildren, Sarah, Emily, Molly and Matthew Studler; and a sister, Marilyn McPeak.
