Reid, a native of New York, aged 67 years. Mountain Messenger December 15, 1923, Pg. 3 Sudden Death. Word of the sudden of John W. Reid of Scales reached us on Tuesday. At this time it is not known what caused Mr. Reids death, as a few days before he was talking to Supervisor J. C. Brown on the telephone, and appeared to be in perfect health. Later Since the above was put in type we learn tat blood poisoning was the cause of Mr. Reids death. It seems he was putting some hydraulic pipe together on Thursday, December 6th, and in some way had a small piece of skin rubbed off one of his wrists with the sharp edge of a pipe. Neither pain nor discomfort was felt for two or three days, but on Monday the arm began to swell and on Tuesday he was dead. Mr. Reid had resided in and around Scales for over 40 years, and his friends in that part of the country were many. A loving wife, three step-daughters, Mrs. Etta Fitzgerald, Elsie Marvin and Laura Marvin, and one step-son, Ernest Marvin, survive. The deceased was a native of New York and about 67 years of age.
