She passed away on December 15, 2006 at Washington Hospital with loved ones by her side. Born May 7, 1924 in Del Rio, Texas, she was the second youngest of 15 brothers and sisters. She moved with her family to California when she was 18 years old. Fremont is where she logged in 20 plus years serving the very hospital where she spent her final days. Working in the Housekeeping Department she was known for her efficiency and tireless work ethic. Prior to Washington Hospital, she worked at Parkmont Convalescent Hospital. Aside from cooking "untouchable" tamales and always keeping her family well fed, she enjoyed pulling on those slot machines whenever she got the chance. Carmen also loved to fish. She never shied away from bragging about the BIG ones she caught or all the times she out-fished "the boys." In the evenings, you could always find her engaged in front of the TV watching her Novellas. Although she will be dearly missed, we know her journey isn't over, it's only just beginning. Carmen is the loving mother of Elizabeth and her husband, Dan Tondag of Fremont and Mario A. and his wife, Ana Reontoy of Union City, the devoted grandmother of Matthew and his wife, Vicki Tondag; great-grandmother of Ethan Tondag and beloved sister of Espiranza Castro of Hayward. Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at BERGE-PAPPAS-SMITH CHAPEL OF THE ANGELS, 40842 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA thence to the Mission Church at Mission San Jose for a Mass of Resurrection at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Irvington Memorial Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the mortuary with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. For further information please call (510) 656-1226.
