All persons donating to this site retain the rights to their own work. Mojave Desert News; 23 Aug 1956 Joseph �Joe� A. Rolland died in the Mojave Medical Center Thursday, August 16th. Joe, born June 15, 1892 in Bridgeport, Connecticut has been a desert resident for the past 34 years, having lived in Boron, Rosamond, Lancaster and Mojave. He has been employed as custodian by the local post office for over fourteen years. Joe was seen daily by the local residents meeting the trains and busses to pick up the mail. He also handled the special deliveries. On top of his postal duties he owned and ran a used car lot in Mojave. . A cheery smile, friendly hello and thoughtful interest in everyone�s welfare was Joe�s style. Joe played the role of'"Santa Claus" many times for the youngsters. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge in Bakersfield. Survivors include his widow, Lyle, two step children and three sisters. . Funeral Services were held Monday in the Com. Cong. Church with Dr. Torrance Phelps officiating. Mrs. Rachel Hodges sang two selections accompanied by Mrs. Leanis Richardson, organist. Pall bearers included Barney Finnin, R. Parks Young, Ray Danel, Charles Wilson, Jim Talley, Jim Brewer, Frank Galle and Kenneth Frew. Honorary bearers were William Hollaway, Louis Pulos and Roy Pettitt.
