35-year resident Ruth Virginia Russo mourned
DOWNEY-Services and burial will be in the Green Mount Cemetery in Bellevue, Illinois for Ruth 
Virginia Russo, a former 35-year Downey resident who died Aug. 3 in West Covina where she had 
resided in a retirement home the last eight months. 
She was 82, born Nov. 14, 1918 in St. Louis, Missouri, and lived in Downey until she became sight-
impaired. 
She graduated from Southern Methodist University and belonged to the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. 
She retired after 29 years as a government auditor for NASA. 
She was active in the Downey Woman's Club, Panhellenic, Newcomer's, Eastern Star, and NARFE. 
She also volunteered at KDB and ESL. She will be remembered for her extensive owl collection, 
many acquired during her extensive foreign travels. She also raised orchids which she shared with 
friends. 
Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Sims; a granddaughter; and six great-grandchildren. 
The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the Cancer Society.
