All persons donating to this site retain the rights to their own work. Published: 03 Apr 2003 A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 6, at the California City VFW Post for Harry A. Schmidt who passed away in Lewiston, Idaho, on March 23, 2003. Harry was a longtime California City resident until 1991 when he and wife Angie moved to Riggins, Idaho. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and also a member of the American Legion Post in California City. Harry was born in New Jersey in 1927 and joined the Navy in 1944. He was the west coast field engineer for King Radio Corp. and moved to California City in 1982. He loved the area and was involved in local politics, a police reservist and a member of the CalCity Search & Rescue team. Harry spent his last years at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Lewiston having suffered a stroke in 1993. His last wishes were to be returned to California City to his many friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Angie Schmidt of Riggins, daughters Irene Van Oosterhout and Beth Schmidt both of Lancaster, California, and son Eric who lives in Missouri. Any donations should be directed to the Auxiliary units of the VFW and American Legion.
