The Downey Eagle October 19, 2001 Volume 9 Number 35 Memorial services for Don Schneider DOWNEY-A memorial service will be held today (Friday, Oct. 19) at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for Don N. Schneider, a long-time resident who died Oct. 16 in his Downey home, at age 82. He was born on March 6, 1919 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to parents Nikolas and Ophelia. He served his country honorably in the Army during WWII. He later moved to Downey in 1952, starting his own real estate business when Downey was no more than "orange fields." He was an athlete and enjoyed golf. He often could be seen at the Rio Hondo Golf Course and on the putting green. At one time he served as vice president of the Board of Realtors; he was also with the Downey Chamber of Commerce. He helped establish Saint Raymond's Church and was a very active parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia, by daughters Stephanie Patrice, Katherin Elizabeth and Shannon Patricia. Committal services will be held tomorrow at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City. The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Union Rescue Mission, 545 S. San Pedro St., Los Angeles, CA Services were directed by Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.
