The Downey Eagle March 23, 2001 Volume 9 Number 5 Friends, family mourn Loi Beth Shaw at 78 DOWNEY-Funeral services were held March 19 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Downey for Loi Beth Shaw, a resident of Downey for 43 years, who worked for Swift Meat Packing and in later years for foundaries using the lost wax method. She was 78, born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and died March 15 at the Lakewood Regional Medical Center. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Downey, 4th Ward, and held many positions with the church working with children. She was a primary teacher at the time of her death. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Robert George Shaw of Downey; her daughter, Loretta Federico of Downey; a son, Dr. Lawrence Shaw (Laura, M.D.) of Springfield, Illinois; grandchildren Lisa (Glen) Thomas of Downey, Karen Federico (Robert Bell) of Huntington Park, Tamara Federico of Downey, Timothy, Sarah and Lucas Shaw of Springfield, Illinois; great-grandchildren Madison Bell and Kaitlyn Thomas; brothers Jim (Shirley) Kerr and Wally (LaRue) Kerr; sisters Audrey June and Heather; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Alta Loretta Young. Bishop Tow officiated.
