Local resident Jean Smith, 83, passed away in a 
Lancaster hospital on Dec. 15. Per her request, 
no services will be held, however, the family 
would appreciate prayers.
Jean was born on July 4, 1921 in Cleveland, 
Ohio. During the war years, Jean met and 
married the love of her life, Vurley Loyal Smith. 
Together, they raised their sons in the Los 
Angeles area before living in Hemet for 20 years 
and then moving to Tehachapi in 1997. After 57 
years of marriage, Vurley passed away on June 
22, 2001.
Jean enjoyed traveling, cooking and reading. 
She attended Mt. Bible Church and often took 
part in a Bible study group at the Mountain Aire 
Estates where she lived.
Jean is survived by her sons, Ronald Smith and 
wife Nancy of Reno, Nev., Michael Smith and 
wife Susan of Tehachapi, Robin Smith and wife 
Sherry of Reno, Nev., and Terry Smith and wife 
Socoro of Arizona; five grandchildren and two 
great-grandchildren.
Wood Family Funeral Service handled the 
cremation arrangements.
