Source Unknown; Date Unknown March 24, 1918 Dec. 9, 2004 Frances Becker Stewart was born in Monticello, Iowa on March 24, 1918 and moved with her mother and siblings to Long Beach at the age of 5, after the death of her father. She had many fond memories of spending afternoons at the beach after school and chores were done. She married Burton Stewart on Feb. 8, 1936 in Huntington Park and they were happily married until his death on Feb. 8, 2003. After her children were grown, Fran went back to school and obtained her training as an orthopedic medical assistant and worked for an orthopedic group in Long Beach until her retirement. Fran and Burt built their retirement home in Tehachapi in 1975 and enjoyed many happy years of golf, gardening and spending time with friends and grandchildren. Fran was a longtime member of PEO and enjoyed the many friends she made there. Fran is survived by her daughter, Gail Gunnels and husband Steve of Cummings Valley; son Paul Stewart and wife Barbara of Maine; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Escondido, Fullerton, Santa Barbara and Missouri. She leaves a sister, Eleanor of Long Beach. Fran was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Becker, and sister, Eloise. Arrangements were handled by Wood Family Funeral Home. There will be no public service and a family remembrance of both Burt and Fran's life will be held at a later date in Maui, Hawaii, an area that held a special place in their hearts. Instead of flowers, if desired, a contribution can be made to the Kern Chapter of the American Cancer Society, 1523 California Ave., Bakersfield, CA 93304 or the Tehachapi Humane Society, P.O. Box 922, Tehachapi, CA 93581. NOTE: Photo At: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cagha/index.htmphotos/kern/
