"Big Bear Grizzly"; Thursday, April 2, 2009 Alice May Stone of Sylmar, Calif., passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009, after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Alice was born in North Dakota in 1921 but spent most of her life in Southern California. She is survived by her son Don Phillips and daughter-in-law Yvonne Phillips of Big Bear Lake and daughter Sharon Spencer and son-in-law Ralph Spencer of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; four grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. Alice loved visiting in Big Bear Lake and came every year to enjoy the fireworks on the 4th of July. She also loved attending Soroptimist meetings, their special events and DOVES annual Starry Starry Nights fundraiser. She and her long time companion Harold Hoagland, volunteered with the Red Cross and worked on blood drives two days a week for 25 years. She was a Dodgers fan and loved to travel. Always cheerful and kind, Alice will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
