Daily Press, Hesperia Star & Desert Dispatch; 3/4/2008 Gracie Swords left her family, friends and life on Feb. 29, 2008, at 85 years young. She will join her husband of 50 years, Axel. From Kansas City, Mo. she moved to the Los Angeles area where she graduated at Fremont High. During WWII, she loved dancing to the Big Bands, bowling and would volunteer at the USO. She was a Girl Scout leader, president of the PTO, and went camping with her family. She worked as a union bookkeeper with the grocery industry, retiring from Market Basket. Between playing with her grandchildren at "Camp Grandma's," she found time to attend Victor Valley Junior College taking craft, quilting and sewing classes. She loved casino turn-arounds with her friends. Gracie was an active member with the Holy Family Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Hesperia Leisure League, Widow and Widowers of the High Desert, and treasurer for the High Desert Doll Club. We will all remember special times we shared with her and happiness she brought to everyone she touched. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday. Rosary will be said at 11 a.m. Services to follow at 1 p.m. at Desert View Memorial Park, 11500 Amargosa Road, Victorville
