Source Unknown; Date Unknown May 9, 1911 � Oct. 13, 2004 Alice Ruth Bernard Thiessen was born May 9, 1911, in Oak Park and died on Oct. 13 in Tehachapi. Alice was a resident of California for 93 years. She was raised and educated in Coalinga, resided in Bakersfield, where she worked for the chamber of commerce, Bakersfield Police Department, and retired from the Kern County Sheriffs Department. She married the love of her life, William Thiessen, in 1958. Both retired and enjoyed the travels in their motorhome and fly fishing in Crescent City for salmon. They were also avid golfers, but mostly just enjoyed spending their time together. Alice is survived by her nephew, Robert Bernard of Hawaii and his children, Monica Bernard, Dustin R. Bernard and wife Malena of Reno, Nev.; niece and husband, Jack and Jean Holland of Tehachapi and their children, Chris and Mike Holland; and a great-great-niece, Abigail Bernard. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Oct. 17, at 2 p.m. at the Wood Family Funeral Service chapel and a graveside service will be held on Monday, Oct. 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Union Cemetery in Bakersfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hoffman Hospice, 1832 W. Ave. K, Suite D, Lancaster, CA 93534. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
