Born in Buffalo County, Neb. on Nov. 24, 1917, to the late Frank A. Richter and Ottilla Pauline "Dotty" Litty. While attending business school in Iowa City, her eyes met those of Otto Toppenberg in Reich's Cafe. Their marrage of 1939 was interrupted by Otto's service with the U.S. Navy and his work on the Alcan Highway. During that period Rosella lived in Iowa City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. The couple moved to California in 1949, and Rosella spent 38 years with the U.S. Postal Service where she became Hesperia's Assistant Postmaster. She retired in 1984. She leaves behind her children; Christine of Las Vegas; Janet (Denny Lewis) of Galt; Lily of Sacramento; and Val (Susan) of West Sacramento; and her dear grandchildren, Alec and Kelly. She worked tirelessly to help provide for her children and help them attend college, but always had time for kids activities and clubs. Preceded in death by her husband, Otto; sisters Helen Hand (Russ); Katherine Thomas (George); Pauline Priebe (Earl); and Loretta True (Harry); and brothers Joseph (Pat); and Kenneth. Also survived by sisters Edith Grantham (Wilfred); Francis Behn (Harry) and Waunita Kouba (Stanley); and brother Harold (Billie). Memorial services will be held on March 17, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at Riverside National Cemetary. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Alzheimer's Assocation, Yolo Hospice or the Asian Community Nursing Home in Sacramento in recognition of their kind assistance to Rosella and her family.
