Torrey, long-time Cal City, Mojave resident BY BILL DEAVER CALIFORNIA CITY � Longtime California City and Mojave resident Lew S. Torrey passed away October 27 in Lancaster. Mr. Torrey, a retired telephone company employee, had lived in California City for 28 years, and in Mojave for many years before that. He was active in the Mojave Mineralogical Society and Rescue 3. Mr. Torrey was born August 20, 1904 in Denver, Colorado. He was preceded in death by wives Lorena in 1973 and Connie in 1990. He is survived by a son, Glen and daughter-in-law Herbie of Mojave, daughter Patricia Torrey Tewksbury and son-in-law Glenn Tewksbury of Merritt Island, Florida; granddaughter Heidi Torrey Willcox of Lake Forest, California, and grandson Gene Torrey Tewksbury of St. Augustine, Florida, and three great-grandchildren. No services were held and donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Cancer Society. Lew S. Torrey, Long-time California City and Mojave resident Lew S. Lew served as a "pick-up" person for transporting skydivers from landing areas back to Skydive California City hangar. He also enjoyed being a check-point for Desert Classic Barstow to Las Vegas Motorcycle Race. Mr. Torrey was born August 20, 1904 in Denver, Colorado.
