The Downey Eagle August 10, 2001 Volume 9 Number 25 Thomas Franklin Tucker memorial service held WHITTIER-A memorial service was held at La Habra Methodist Church for Thomas Franklin Tucker, a longtime educator with the Mountain View School District and lifetime sports enthusiast who died July 7. He was born in Ft. Collins, Colorado on Aug. 4, 1925, and moved with his family to Huntington Park when he was four. His parents, "Bud" and Helen Tucker were 60-year residents of Downey where "Bud" was a longtime realtor. Tom was a notable athlete and sports enthusiast who was also committed to family and community service. He held the long jump record at Whittier College for 15 years, was a former captain of the track team, and was a scratch golfer. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II and had a deep sense of patriotism. He was chosen to compete for the G.I. Olympics Team in 1945. He completed a bachelor of arts and master's degree in education at USC, and had a distinguished career as a teacher and principal in the Mountain View School District. He had an abiding commitment to children, which led him to volunteer his time instructing church youth groups, supervising after-school activities, and working with at-risk youth. Survivors include his mother, Helen; his wife of 54 years, Barbara; three sons, Stephen, David (Lynne), and Thomas C. (Robin Kisinger); and grandchildren Dawn, Reid and Andy.
