Former teacher Thelma Uzes mourned by many
DOWNEY-Thelma L. Uzes, an accomplished pianist and a former elementary school teacher in 
Downey for many years before moving to Napa, died Jan. 29. 
She was born in Livermore Falls, Maine, May 4, 1905, and was a 1926 graduate of the University 
of Redlands. She also studied at the Fontainebleau School of Music in France. 
She lived in Downey more than 40 years. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francois, in 1952. 
Survivors include her sister, Ruth Grijalva of Long Beach; her daughter, Marie Stoker of Napa; sons 
Bud of Loomis, Charles of Athens, Georgia, and Robert of Hacienda Heights; eight grandchildren, 
10 great-grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews.
