Redlands Daily Facts; 2/26/2008 Alan Dale Vargyas, a 17-year resident of Redlands, died Feb. 13 at his home in Redlands, following an illness. He was 53. He was born March 14, 1954, in Painesville, Ohio, and had lived in Redlands with his family since 1991. He worked as a quality control manager in the food industry for 27 years, most recently at McCain Foods in Colton. He and his wife, Lynette, a second-grade teacher at Mariposa Elementary School, were married in 1977. They celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary touring Northern California. Vargyas was a member of the American Society for Quality and the Research Chefs Association. His family said he loved demonstrating his culinary knowledge and always made sure visitors to the Vargyas home enjoyed delicious food and warm hospitality. Survivors include his wife, Lynette Vargyas; his sons Bradley Vargyas and Adam Vargyas, both of Redlands; his brother William Vargyas of Perry, Ohio; and his mother, Margaret Vargyas of Painesville, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father, William J. Vargyas. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at the First United Methodist Church of Redlands, 1 E. Olive Ave. Cortner Chapel is handling arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Alan Vargyas Memorial Fund, care of Mariposa Elementary School, 3800 Palo Alto Drive, Redlands, CA 92373.
