All persons donating to this site retain the rights to their own work. Source Unknown; 19 Mar 1953 Girl Killed in Accident Near Oak Creek Miss Betty Lois Vaughn, 17, who lived at 401 So. Curry St., Tehachapi died in Mojave Medical Center at 11:25 P.M., Sunday, March 15. Her death came eight hours after the car she was driving turned over on Oak Creek Road west of the aqueduct. A passenger, Larry Lake, 19, of 525 E. D St. also of Tehachapi was treated for minor injuries and released Sunday afternoon. Investigation of the accident was by Russ Troxler, California Highway Patrolman. O'Donnell ambulance brought both young people to the Mojave hospital and the body of the girl was taken to the O'Donnell Funeral Home. Funeral services for Miss Betty Vaughn, who was born in Fayetteville, Ark., September 5, 1935 were held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 18 in Tehachapi. Rev. T. Gorden Siebold, paster of the First Baptist Church there officiated at the ceremony which was under the direction of O'Donnell Funeral Home. Interment was in the Tehachapi Protestant cemetery.
