Source Unknown; Date Unknown 1924 -1998 Funeral services were held in the Church of the Nazarene December 26 for Velnxa Faye Ward, 74, who passed away in a Long Beach hospital on December 18. Mrs. Ward was born August 4, 1924 in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of a Baptist minister, Reverend George and his wife, Berneice Hathaway. She was one of a family of six daughters and two sons. Mrs. Ward was married to Paul Phillip Ward on Septem- ber 27, 1943 in Ozark, Missouri. She was a resident of Tehachapi for 19 years. Before retirement she was employed as a meat packer with Hormel in Vernon, California. She was a member of the Tehachapi branch of TOPS, TBN, and formerly, the Bear Valley Springs Women's Club. She enjoyed making booties for the Crisis Pregnancy Center. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed the preschool age children she taught in Sunday School. She also worked in the nursery of the church. She was interested in dolls and had a collection of dolls. It was her way to always put everyone, her family and friends, ahead of herself and found joy in thinking of and doing for others. Mrs. Ward is survived by her sons, Paul Richard Ward of Juneau, Alaska, David Wayne Ward and Michelle of Phoenix, Arizona, Phillip Edward Ward and Leaha of Tehachapi; daughter, Gloria Jeana Schenck and Raymond Upmore of Long Beach; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, brother, Herbert Hathaway; sisters, Evelyn, Phyliss, Juanita, Joyce, and Darlene. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Ward in 1989 and a brother, Paul Hath- away in 1997. The Reverend Jerry Powers officiated at the service. Interment followed the service at Tehachapi Public Cemetery -Eastside. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
