Audrey Louise Wells, 74, California City resident passed away on February 10, 1996 in 
Lancaster, California.
Far Rockaway, New York was the birthplace of Audrey Louise DeGroot. She was born 
March 30, 1921 in Far Rockaway and grew up in that Atlantic beach resort. She married her 
sweetheart, Fred Wells, on the first day of spring in 1942. They celebrated 53 years and 11 
months together.
Audrey, beloved wife and mother, is deeply mourned by her husband, Fred Wells of 
California City; by her sons, Fred Wells of Long Beach, California and Robert Wells of 
California City; by her daughters, Mary Schulz of Idaho, Ellen McVeigh of Connecticut, and 
Karen Johnson of Florida; by her brother, George DeGroot of New York; her sisters Jean 
Moleno of New York and Lucille Oldmiton of Georgia; and by her fifteen grandchildren and 
eleven greatgrandchildren.
The DeGroot family, pre-Revolutionary Dutch settlers in early New York, have a family resting 
place in Pine Lawn, Farmingdale on Long Island. Audrey will join them there on her birthday this 
year. All family memorials are private and the family expresses their deep appreciation for the love 
and care of friends and neighbors.
