Bakersfield Californian Jan 17, 2008 Weringer, Michael Francis Michael (Mike) Francis Weringer passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2008, at the age of 64 in his home of natural causes. Mike was born February 6, 1943 in Glendale, CA and grew up in Eagle Rock, CA to Jan Weringer and Jeanne O'Neill (Weringer). He grew up in Eagle Rock of Los Angeles County where he spent his early childhood years with his grand-mother and Cousin Billy which brought them very close. He and his sister would spend their summers with Nana, Alda, and his Grandpa Joe Weringer in Woody where he became close to his cousins Ronnie and Jerry Woody and developed a deep love for the Woody community and ranching. He graduated from Citrus College in Azusa, CA and continued his education in business as he worked for Ford Aerospace and Martin Marietta. While in high school and college, Mike greatly enjoyed working at Cliftons where he loved both the people he worked with and served, as well as preparing food even though he cut many of his fingers. He married Janet Weringer (Lyttle) in 1967 and their daughter Theresa Weringer (Chetwood) was born in 1968. He served in the United States Army oversees in Germany for two years until 1970. He enjoyed serving others so much that he even opened a candy and ice cream store where he loved people enjoying being together. While working for Martin Marietta, he met Virginia in 1982. He married Virginia Weringer (Williams) on May 20, 1989 in Santa Maria, CA. Mike quickly and completely included Virginia's three sons and their families as his family and became grandpa to now 10 grandchildren. He worked at Lockheed Marietta as a procurement manager until he and Virginia both retired in 2002. In 2003 he and Virginia returned to the Woody area where they began their own ranch and fulfilled a life-long dream of raising cattle and goats and living in the area he loved as a child. People and relationships were so important to Mike. He absolutely loved having as many family members around as often as was possible. Mike and Ginny would often travel all over the country to be with family. He was an awesome, loving, and caring man who gave so much love to his wife, children, sisters, and grandchildren. This love extended into his community. He was active in the Moose Lodge and was president of the Oak Tree Community Center where he made a priority of getting people together in creative and sometimes crazy ways. His hobbies were as numerous as the people he loved and included model trains, flying model airplanes, hunting, fishing, NASCAR, gardening, golfing, antique car restoration, football, and baseball. His only disappointment was ours as well; not having more time together. He is survived by his wife Virginia, daughter Theresa and husband Bill Chetwood, son James and wife Carolyn Murphy, son Larry and wife Cori Murphy, and son Tracy and wife Seana Murphy. The grandchildren he was so proud of are Rebekah and husband Daniel Bowman, US Army Sergeant Brad Murphy, Natasha Murphy, Zach Demarest, Sarah Murphy, Hillary Murphy, Emily Joe Murphy, Courtney Murphy, and Maximillion Murphy. His sisters are Dr. Elora Weringer, Kathy and husband Herb Ranharter, Diane and husband David Kretovics, Julie and husband Tom Petrone, and Susan and Boone Welton. His nephews are Brian and Jeremy Ranharter, he has numerous cousins, and was blessed with many trustworthy friends and a beloved dog, Heidi Mae. He was predeceased by his mother, father, and grandparents. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 18th, 2008, at the Blue Mountain Cemetery, Weringer Family Plot, in Woody, followed by a memorial celebration of his life and reception at the Oak Tree Community Center. Mike was an incredible family man who was always trustworthy, a community builder and always sacrificing for his family and friends. We love you and you are deeply missed.
