Source Unknown; Date Unknown March 12, 1943 - May 5, 2004 A memorial funeral service was held on Saturday, May 8 at St. Jude's in the Mountains Episcopal Church for Russell Ray Western, 61, who passed away in Tehachapi on May 5. Russell was born in Santa Monica on March 12, 1943 to Cecil and Mona Western. He remained in the Los Angeles area throughout his school years and through much of his professional career. He attended college and received his bachelor's degree. About a year ago, Russell moved to Bakersfield to become the purchasing director for Bakersfield Heart Hospital. He was dedicated to his work and well respected by those he supervised. In February of this year, he moved to Tehachapi to be near his family. Very shortly thereafter he was diagnosed with a terminal illness that left him very little time to enjoy the mountain community he so loved. Throughout his illness his main concern focused on others and helping them cope with his situation. Russell will be remembered by his many friends and loved ones for his wonderful sense of humor. He was always laughing, teasing and playing jokes on everyone. He was quick-witted, kind and a true friend to many. Russell is survived by his mother, Mona Western of Tehachapi; brother, Fredric Western of Dallas, Texas; sisters, Susan McGee of Bakersfield, Mona Rae Western and Roene Western, both of Tehachapi; nieces, Aundrea Gomez of Long Beach, Katherine and Candace McGee, both of Bakersfield; special friend, Bonnie Householder of Bakersfield, and caregiver, Patty Dollar. Father Wes Clare and Father Gary Bradley officiated at the service. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the cremation arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Russell's memory to either the American Cancer Society, 1523 California Ave., Bakersfield, CA 93301, or the Boxer Rescue Fund Inc. L.A., 17514 Ventura, Suite 201, Encino, CA 91316- 3837. NOTE: Photo At: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cagha/index.htmphotos/kern/
