Mojave Desert News; 11 Apr 1946 INYOKERN MURDER AND SUICIDE Determined by the Coroner's Office to be a case of murder and suicide at the recent inquest, the body of Harold Lewis Whitford, 46, of Hartford, Conn., who committed suicide after first giving cyanide to his 9-year-old daughter, Barbara Jeane Whitford, was slated for burial in Mojave on Sunday, April 13th after services which will be held at 2 p. m. at the O'Donnell Funeral Home Chapel here. The body of the little girl will be shipped to Baltimore, Md. for burial. Whitford, who was employed at the Naval Testing Station at Inyokern as a clerk was estranged from his wife who had demanded the return of baby Barbara who had been taken away by her father when he left the east. The bodies were discovered by officers who went to Inyokern to arrest Whitford for his illegal act, on April 4th.
