The Downey Eagle March 15, 2002 Volume 10 Number 4 Graveside services today for Mabel Wistock DOWNEY-Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. today, March 15, at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier for Mabel Wistock who was born April 12, 1921 in Danville, Illinois and died March 9 in Costa Mesa after battling Alzheimer's disease. She was the second of eight children born to George and Hazel Smith. A graduate of Bismarck High School in 1940 and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1943, she married 1st Lt. Mike Wistock, a B-17 pilot and former POW, later moving to California where their only child, Mary Ann, was born. She worked over 30 years for Dr. George A. Monnet, a prominent physician in Downey. In the 60s they moved from their Florence medical offices by the old Hearth Restaurant to Paramount and 5th. He worked for North American Rockwell from 1953 to 1983, when they both retired. She is survived by her husband Mike, of Downey; daughter Mary Ann Huisken (Robert) of Huntington Beach; grandson Todd Hunter (Jill); four great grandchildren, Kylie, Jolie, Sophie and Dean, all of Irvine; three sisters, Lillian Marion, Hazel Bahls of Danville, and Patricia Hughes of Perrysville, Indiana; two brothers George and Merlyn of Danville; sister-in-law Marilyn Smith of Carlsbad; and brother-in-law Leonard Wascher of Westville, Illinois.
