All persons donating to this site retain the rights to their own work. Source Unknown; 3 Aug 1950 Sarah Elizabeth Wolfenbarger was born March 23, 1875, at Gilmer, Texas. She married John G. Payne of Manchester, Tex., in 1893 which union lasted until the passing of her husband March 7, 1908 at Wilburton, Okla. Five sons were born of this union. one of which died at birth. Though left with four small children, she faithfully performed the duties of both mother and breadwinner. She is survived by four sons: John E., Richard Lee, Albert R. of Rosamond, Joseph E. of Stayton, Ore., three grand children and three great grandchildren. Also one sister, Mrs. Lulu Hamil of Wilburton, Okla., two brothers, S. Richard Wolfenbarger of Haileyville, Okla., Joseph E. Kelsey of Independence, Mo., and a host of friends. She became a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at the age of 18. She continued a faithful member for 57 years. As a good and true citizen of her country she was first in her precinct to cast her ballot at the last Primary Election. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. July 29, at the Wayside Chapel in Rosamond. Rev. Virgil L. Lunn of Montebello officiated. Mrs. Wm. Hedgpeth, accompanied by Mrs. D. F. Halsey rendered a vocal solo. Others from out of town who attended were Mrs. Virgil L. Lunn, Garland Reeves of Burbank, Frank Reeves of. Sun Valley, Mr. and Mrs. Frank McAllister of Bakersfield, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kelsey, granddaughter and grandson of Taft, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Kelsey of Independence, Mo.; a brother. The pallbearers were John Pengilley, E. L. Van Buskirk, W. R. Whitaker, W. F. Bullington, GeraId Bartell and Glen Wellman. Interment was at the Mojave Cemetery.
