Mountain Messenger � 12/21/1895, Pg. 2 DIED � YORK --- At Downieville, December 18th, 1895, Jerome Bonaparte York, a native of Illinois, aged 52 years, 9 months and 21 days. (Same paper � Pg. 3) � Death of Jerome B. York. � Another of the old timers of our town has passed away. Last Wednesday morning Jerome B. York died at his home, after an illness of short duration, succumbing to the dread pneumonia. A week ago he was in good health and at work at his mine in Slug Canon, where he doubtless contracted the disease, which took him off. Deceased was well and favorably known in this vicinity where he spent the greater portion of his life as an active prospector. He was a native of Illinois and about 53 years of age. Deceased was a member of both the Workmen and Chosen Friends Orders, in which organizations he was insured for $3000. This money will inure to the benefit of his wife and children, who are left to mourn his loss. The funeral took place from the I. O. O. F., Hall on Thursday at two o�clock under the auspices of the A. O. U. W. The remains were followed to their last resting place by a large concourse of friends and acquaintances.
