The Downey Eagle Friday, January 3, 1997 Vol. 4 No. 45 NEWPORT BEACH-A Funeral Mass was heard Dec. 28 at Our Lady Queen of Angels Church in Newport Beach for Roman John Zweber, pharmacist and co-founder of Zweber Apothecaries in Downey. He lived in Corona Del Mar, and died Dec. 24. He was 71, born the 10th of 12 children on his parents' dairy farm in Scott County, Minnesota, and graduated in 1943 from Lakeville, Minnesota, High School. He loved baseball all his life and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Pharmacy in 1947. He opened Zweber Apothecary Shop at Third Street and La Reina Avenue with his brother, Harold, in 1954. Survivors include his wife, Elaine; a son, Gary (and wife Cheryl); daughters Laurie Talbert (and her husband, Steve), Kathy Zweber, Patricia English (and her husband James); grandchildren Megan and Caitlin Talbert, Mathew and Victoria English of the Corona Del Mar area; brothers and sisters Lenore Christensen of Grants Pass, Oregon, Wilfred, Charles and Clinton of Lakeville, Minnesota, Harold of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Gloria Zweber of St. Paul, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by sisters Josephine and Cecilia Zweber and brothers Vincent, Leroy and Emery. Arrangements were by the Pacific View Mortuary.
