Bruce A. Beal
passed away on Aug. 25, 2011, at his home in Big Bear Lake after a long battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 21, 1934, in Glendale, Calif., to Ralph C. Beal and Edna Anderson Beal.
Bruce made his home in Eagle Rock, Calif., until he enlisted in the United States Air Force
from 1953-1956. After his discharge, Bruce joined the Los Angeles City Fire Department
where he served as a firefighter for 30 years, retiring in June of 1990.
Bruce married Judith G. Phillips on Oct. 13, 1973, in La Canada, Calif. He moved to Big Bear
in 1979 with his family. After retirement, he was employed by The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-Day Saints and the San Bernardino County Parks and Recreation. He also was a general
handyman and worked for many citizens of the Big Bear Community.
He is survived by his wife, Judith P. Beal, and daughter, Sarah Beal Nelson, of San Antonio
Texas, a step-son, Michael C. Hauser, M.D., of Cleveland, Ohio, and four sons from a previous
marriage: Christopher B. Beal, of Peoria, Ariz., Scott A. Beal, PhD., of Fayetteville, N.C., Bryce
D. Beal, of Ventura, Calif., and Brett C. Beal, of Eagle Mountain, Ore. Bruce is also survived by
two sisters, Diane Beal Monteleone, of Sierra Madre, Calif. and Mary Ann Beal Carr, of Ramona,
Calif. Bruce was the beloved grandfather of 25 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral proceedings will be held, Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at the Big Bear Chapel of The Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 1 p.m. Burial will be at the National Cemetary in Riverside
Calif., on Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, at 9:45 a.m.
