Howard Reynolds Beazella

Longtime Big Bear resident, Howard Reynolds Beazell, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at the Bear Valley Community Hospital. Howard was born in Santa Monica on Feb. 2, 1935, to Howard Lawson and Cathryn Reynolds Beazell.
Throughout his life, he was active in Boy Scouts. As a youth, he attended Boy Scout Troop 2 in Santa Monica where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Santa Monica High School in 1953. During his high school years, he was active in sports and student government and was elected Student Body President in 1953.
Howard attended Claremont Men's College, now known as Claremont McKenna College, and was active in the NROTC. While attending Claremont, he was elected to the position of Senior Class President. In 1957, he graduated with a degree in accounting.
Howard attended Officer Candidate School at Naval Station Newport in Rhode Island. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the Naval Supply Corps. After four years of active duty, he went into the Navy's Pacific Ready Reserve. Howard ultimately retired from the Navy in 1995 at the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

The vast majority of Howard's professional life was spent in the banking industry. He was employed by Marble Mortgage Company in Pasadena and was employed by United California Bank, where he assisted in the development and implementation of the bank's first computerized securities trading system. He ultimately retired in 1990, as an Assistant Vice President of First Interstate Bank.

For 15 years, Howard served diligently as Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 718 in Hacienda Heights.

Howard married Janet Marie Gulsby in 1958. They had three children. Janet passed away in 1994 and in 1996, Howard married Margaret Jean Yokee. Howard is survived by his widow, Margaret, her two daughters, Pamela K. James of Ventura and Sheryl Ann Kyllingstad, of Anaheim, and his three children, Katy Gibbons, of Rancho Cucamonga, Howard L. Beazell, of Long Beach, and Jenny Ellis, of Whittier. He is further survived by 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and his brother, Richard M. Beazell, of Big Bear. Services for Howard were held Feb. 26, at Rose Hills Cemetery, located in Whittier, Calif.
