After his discharge, he continued his career as an auto mechanic. He worked for many years specializing in import cars such as Jaguar and MG. He moved to Redding, Calif., where he raised his family and had his own auto repair shop. He eventually moved to Big Bear, Calif., to care for his mother. He worked at Wray’s Automotive for many years until his retirement. While working at Wray’s, Jan met Johnny Russo. Jan and Johnny became close friends and they shared a great passion for auto racing. Together they built the stock car that Johnny still races today fondly known as “Christine.” Jan served as Johnny’s crew chief for almost 20 years. They were very successful and won many track championships.
