Caroline Charlotte Crider was born on a farm near Sheboygan Falls, Wis., on April 9, 1927. She was the oldest in a family of six children. She shouldered many responsibilities as her family went through the difficult Depression and pre-war years. She gave her life to Jesus at the age of 19 and served Him with gratitude and grace for more than 60 years.
Caroline consented to marry a young pastor from Minnesota named Don Crider. Together they embarked on a life serving the Lord. It would be a life that would surprise them and many who knew them. "Together" is a word that fits the description of their lives and ministry. Whether in the mission field in South Africa, or Zimbabwe, or in the pastorate in several U.S. cities or in the golden years of retirement, it was always Don and Caroline or Gramma and Grampa Crider.
Only the affects of Alzheimer's slowly began some isolation. Even then Grampa chose to join his bride at the Skilled Nursing Facility and spend her remaining time comforting her and being her faithful companion to the end of her life in this world. Caroline departed this life on August 16, 2012. She now is free from those hindrances of a failing body and rejoicing in the presence of her Savior. No doubt she is keeping an eye out for that young pastor from Minnesota so they can be together again forever.
