Herbert R. Drury Sr.
of Big BearCity passed away Christmas morning. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he graduated with honors from Dartmouth College, earning him a 20-year career as a biology and science teacher in the New England area.
Herb's passion was hunting and fishing along with telling tales of his adventure. He had many official and semi-official trips to the Arctic and Greenland in the mid-'50s to capture and domesticate the musk oxen.
In 2002 he and his wife Sherry moved to Big Bear. Herb kept himself busy at the Big Bear Discovery Center and a local hunting club "Quail Unlimited." He also was a member of the Big Bear Writer's Group.
He is survived by his brother, Francis; 4 children, Herbert Jr., Robyn Burns, Alix Hoch, and Dana Drury from his first wife who preceded him in death; 12 grandchildren; his wife Sherry and 5 stepchildren, Christine, Robert, Peter, John and Dean.
A memorial service will be held in late spring at the United Methodist Church.
