Joe Thomas Dyer

Joe Thomas Dyer

Longtime resident Joe Dyer finally lost his lengthy battle with cancer and major infections. He passed peacefully at home in the early evening of Dec. 15, 2010.

Born in Oklahoma, he moved to Big Bear when he was 18 years old and went to work for his "Uncle Tom." There he learned his life long profession of running and operating heavy equipment, mainly backhoe, hence his nickname "Backhoe Joe." He purchased his own backhoe and therefore established Dyer's Backhoe Service, which he had for approximately 40 years.

He left behind his wife, Sylvia "Lynn" of 44 years; two sons, Jeffrey Stephen and his wife, Kathleen, and Jeremy Scott; a half-brother, Steve Hoover of Baldwin Lake and two stepsisters, Sue and Jacquita, both residing back east.

A memorial get-together will be held next spring in Joe's Garage for friends to remember all the good times had over the many years. The date to be announced later.
