Margueritte Evangeline Godwin - 97, of Lucerne Valley, Calif., passed away peacefully on
Monday, Dec. 5, 2011. Born and raised in Scobey, Mont., she eventually moved with her
family to Red Wing, Minn. After attending the University of Minnesota, she and her husband,
Dr. Bernard Godwin, moved to Big Bear Lake, Calif., in 1946, where they established a medical
practice. Margueritte worked as a registered nurse alongside her husband.
Margueritte and her husband had five children and she was very active in Scouting activities,
the Big Bear School board, Eastern Star, and the Big Bear Old Miners Days celebration. She was
also an avid card player, both bridge and poker.
In later life, she began a successful real estate career in both Big Bear and Lucerne Valley. She
spent the last 15 years of her life in the Apple Valley/Lucerne Valley area, residing in both Jess
Ranch and at Rock Spring in Apple Valley.
Margueritte was preceded in death by her son Chuck in 1978 and her husband, Bernard, in 1995.
She is survived by four children - Mary Stephan of Big Bear Lake, Raymond Godwin of Huntington
Beach, Henry Godwin of Lucerne Valley and Martha Foley of Big Bear City. She is also survived by her
brother Paul of Red Wing, Minn., five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
An open memorial service will be held at the Rock Spring Retirement Community, 20594 Bear Valley
Road in Apple Valley on Friday, Dec. 16, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the
