Lela Ann Peavler Grime

of Big Bear City, passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at the age of 77. Lela was born to loving parents, John and Elda Wisehaupt, in Los Angeles on June 18, 1935. Her love of the outdoors began as a child, while enjoying summer vacatons camping with her family in Barton Flats. She continued camping and backpacking throughout her life and climbed Mount Whitney several times.

Lela married Billy Floyd Peavler, and they raised three sons and one daughter in the San Gabriel Valley. As her children were growing, she volunteered at their school and made many life-long friends. She passed her love of the outdoors on to her children. After her children were grown she graduated from the University of Redlands.

After her husband passed away, she met and married James Grime. They settled in Big Bear City in 1991. Lela became active in the Historical Society where she served as secretary for seven years. She was also active in the Good Sam Club. She and her husband traveled extensively throughout the United States. In her spare time, Lela enjoyed quilting and reading.

She is survived by her two sisters, Gwen Rosser and Jean Klippstein, her husband of 21 years, James, her four children, Steven, Randal, David, and Sandra, 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, as well as James' 3 children, 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild. The family requests that any donations be made to The Arthritis Foundation.
