Esther Marie Hilliard

began her life journey on Sept. 5, 1920, in Omaha, Neb. Better known as Marie, she is most recognized for her successful real estate career that started in 1962. After becoming an agent for Caroline Cook in Big Bear Lake, Calif., she went on to purchase Spencer Real Estate in the early 1970s from Jack and Vivian Spencer. Prior to becoming a real estate broker, she was an artist, an accountant and most importantly, a mother, who waited until her children were grown before jumping head first in a profession that then did not have a strong female presence.

Marie was actively involved in the Bear Valley community as a member of many organizations and hosted an annual pumpkin patch for 44 years. Marie had a passion for the outdoors, which is why she chose Big Bear to call home. She enjoyed skiing, tennis, boating and fishing. Her vibrant personality and abundant energy also brought unique hobbies such as cake design, jewelry creation and hosting lavish parties for her agents.

At the age of 91, she went home to her Savior on May 21, 2012, after a long life full of love, beauty and rich experiences.

Marie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Allen Hilliard, in 1999. She is survived by her sister, Arline McAnally, her three sons; Tim Hilliard of Big Bear Lake, Calif., Ken and wife Mary Hilliard of Big Bear City, Calif., Ed and wife Joni Hilliard of Big Bear City, Calif., and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, caring family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in the form desired by friends to your favorite charity in honor of Marie.

Funeral services will be held Wed., May 30, 2012, 11 a.m. at Rose Hills Memorial Park - Memorial Chapel, with burial to follow.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Big Bear Lake, Calif., and will be announced at a later date.
