Our loving mother, Betty Hunter, of Big Bear Lake, Calif., passed away peacefully at her
son's home on Thursday Feb. 10. Mom (Betty) died of natural causes at the respectful age of 96. She is survived by her
four children Betty Budzik (Dick), Roberta Hunter (Ron), Barney Hunter (Kathy) and Bonnie Shaffer (Gary),
14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Betty was married to her husband, Eugene C. Hunter, for over 28 years until his passing in 1972. They
were one of the original fox farming families on Fox Farm Road and owned and operated the Texaco gas
station and feed store on Big Bear Boulevard. They started Hunter's Nursery in the late 1960s, which she
continued to operate for over 20 years after his passing. Betty traveled extensively throughout the world
as a member of the Nursery Association.
A gathering to remember Betty will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. at Bear Valley Community
Church where she was an active member for over 60 years.
She was laid to rest in a private interment at Rose Hills Memorial Park. A springtime memorial is planned
for May, around her birthday and Mothers Day for those who wish to celebrate and honor her life.
