William Bert Lundy
60 years of age and a long-time resident of Big Bear, passed away on June 23, 2013. He was born on Sept. 20, 1952. He was with the National Forest Service for 28 years, the last 15 of which he was Captain on the San Bernardino National Forest. He could tell you the name of every plant, tree, bush, pine cone and even pine needle. He was known as a prankster, yet he was "Mr. Weather Man" and has been referenced in the Grizzly newspaper and several news stations in the L.A. area. He was also a very good poet, though that was not known by many people.
He loved the outdoors so much that, for his retirement, he started his own Landscaping, Defensive Space Management, and Snow Removal business.
Bert is survived by his sister Paula Charron of Massachusetts. He is well-known and loved by dozens and dozens of people in Big Bear as well as the entire San Bernardino area. He was the nicest, kindest, most generous man anyone could have ever known or had who had the pleasure of meeting. If you were fortunate enough to be able to call him a friend then you were indeed very blessed. Bert will be greatly missed for a very long time. the world will not be the same without him in it.
There will be a memorial service held for Bert on August 24th, 11am in the Amphitheater at the Discovery Center on North Shore. All friends, family and Forestry Service employee's are welcome.
