JoAnn Mark 82, passed peacefully on Aug. 10, 2012. Born April 29, 1930, in Grand Rapids, Mich. She married in 1948 and moved to California where she raised and supported her 5 children in the Inland Empire. With dedication, JoAnn graduated college and received her masters degree in education, teaching high school English.

When JoAnn moved to Big Bear, she knew she was home and became very active in the community. She was in many CATS performances, the Masterworks Chorale along with quilting and sewing. JoAnn was an accomplished pianist and singer. She was a very active member of the Democratic Club and the Bear Valley Center for Spiritual Enrichment. Growing up in Michigan, she was an ice skater but her true love was hiking and cross country skiing the mountains of Big Bear.

JoAnn is survived by her daughters Mary (Michael) Verdiner, Leslie (Terry) Mark, Nancy (Michael) Main; sons David (Christy) Mark and Randy (Louise) Mark; brother Doug and sister Karen Steury; 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

A ceremony honoring her life will be held on Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. at the Bear Valley Center for Spiritual Enrichment, 578 Bonanza Trail, Big Bear Lake. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to BVCSE, P.O. Box 4184, Big Bear Lake, CA 92315. (909) 866-7100.
